New study identifies interactions between two important skin bacteria

Fascinating social life of #skin#bacteria avoiding conflicts and fights while competing for #nutrients and space and maintain balance that determines the composition of our skin #microbiota .

New study identifies interactions between two important skin bacteria B. subtilis and S. epidermidis: B. subtilis is an important protective bacterium of our skin and S. epidermidis is the most abundant member of the #skinmicrobiota

This study sheds light on how #microbial communities define their territory in certain microenvironments of our skin, where many other bacteria live: they respond locally to the secreted products of others, and colonize specific microenvironments of our skin, based on different factors such as pH, nutrients, or humidity. Specific #bacterial competition strategies appear to be an important factor that defines which bacteria colonize a specific #microenvironment of our skin.
